Asheville Orthopaedic Surgeon Delivers Presentation at Symposium

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Dr. Gordon Groh, an orthopaedic surgeon at Blue Ridge Bone & Joint, was a key presenter recently at the Fracture Fixation Symposium held in Celebration, Fla. The symposium was attended by approximately 30 orthopaedic surgeons from across the United States.

Groh, who specializes in shoulder surgery, was chosen by DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc., to address treatment of a shoulder fracture using the company’s Global Fx Shoulder Fracture System. The system allows reconstruction of fractures using shoulder replacement surgery. Groh also demonstrated the system’s advantages using a cadaver.

“This symposium was an opportunity for me to present advancements in shoulder fracture treatment with other orthopaedic surgeons,” says Groh, who joined Blue Ridge Bone & Joint in 1995. “The Global Fx system offers numerous benefits, including more options for component size and alignment jigs, which improve patient outcomes.”

A specialist in shoulder, elbow and hand surgery, Groh is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis. He received his medical degree from the University of Missouri School of Medicine-Columbia and completed a shoulder fellowship at the University of Texas at San Antonio, as well as a hand surgery fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.

Groh has also been awarded a certificate of added qualification in hand surgery, and he is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a member of The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Shoulder and Elbow Society, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the North Carolina Orthopedic Society and the North Carolina Hand Society.

Groh has delivered numerous research presentations on a variety of orthopaedic surgery topics and has contributed to dozens of orthopaedic-related publications. Groh also conducts product evaluations for DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc.
